The working principle of bookshelf speakers is the same as that of floor-standing speakers. There are certain differences between the two in structure and listening environment requirements. First of all, from the appearance, bookshelf speakers are relatively small, usually only 1/3 or 1/4 as large as ordinary floor-standing speakers. Secondly, bookshelf speakers usually only use two speaker units, one tweeter and one woofer, while floor-standing speakers usually have three or more speaker units. Thirdly, due to the size limitation of bookshelf speakers, the tweeter unit is not as big as the tweeter of floor-standing speakers, usually only 6 inches or even smaller.

Two tips for choosing bookshelf speakers:

  1. In principle, the larger woofer of the speaker, the lower the tweeter frequency provided. What is the difference between the 8-inch speaker and the 6.5-inch speaker depends on your use and listening environment, that is, what audio frequency band you need at that time. For example, using large-caliber speakers in language programs can cause murky sound, and vice versa.

2. According to your requirements, if the conditions permit and the appearance, volume, use environment, etc. are acceptable, it is recommended to buy an 8-inch speaker. Especially for home theater speakers, the low-frequency sense of the large-caliber speakers is unmatched by the small-caliber speakers (compared with the brand), which can save the trouble of adding a subwoofer. According to our experience, the subwoofer is not the best way to increase the low frequency, as the sound field positioning will be affected by the speakers.

Hifi bookshelf speakers recommendation

Generally speaking, there are not many bookshelf speakers that are suitable for hifi. They are divided into monitor type and music type. For example, the British ATC is a monitor style speaker, which is very expressive. There are also Dynaudio’s classic 110 and confidence series. Its overall balance of the music is very good, and the Italian jet tweeter is especially great for musical instruments. Eggston’s Isabel speakers especially use the Dynaudio 330T tweeter. The Danish Ruidu series all use AT top units, but Dynaudio launched a desktop active speaker mc15, you can go and listen to it!
